I got my stuff and set up my apartment! Check out the pictures. All the things don’t quite go together well, but I like it. The dining room table and it’s covering looks the best I think.

Where I live (for the time being)

December 21st, 2008

So I have been getting a lot of questions about where exactly I live. Beaumont, Texas is in south east Texas right on the border with Louisiana. You can see the map below:
Also for those of you that are curious here is a little weather data. It rains a fair amount here (I am in [...]

Here are some pictures of the new place. It’s a gated community, called The Preserve, with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, 24 hour gym, tanning salon (it’s really just a tanning bed). It has a club house where they have different kinds of coffee and and tea, a theater room, a sitting area, and computers and [...]

Snow in Texas

December 14th, 2008

It’s a little late because I didn’t have my camera cable and I still don’t have internet (it’s coming Wednesday). The big news of this past week here in Beaumont is that it snowed 4″ in the middle of the night Thursday morning. I woke up and thought I was dreaming. I thought I had [...]

My Texas Family

December 12th, 2008

I knew and I didn’t know I had family in Texas. I kind of knew, but, and I am embarrassed to say this, it didn’t register in my mind that they lived in Texas, the state I was moving to. It wasn’t until another family member pointed out to me that my grand mother’s brother [...]

A long day

December 11th, 2008

I accidently got into work early today (6:08am). I think that is the first time that has ever happened to me, or anyone I know for that matter. I spent most of the day working in the field in the rain, wind, and in 40 degrees (It was 70 yesterday!). It was cold, but it [...]

Whiskey River: The local hot spot

December 10th, 2008

On Friday night, I decided to go out and check out the town. I drove down to Crockett Street, which is supposed to be the entertainment district in the area. Oh how dissapointed I was. The pictures I had seen showed a nice facade with a brightly lit sign. Each building was a different restaurant [...]

Work Hazards

December 4th, 2008

I finished two days of safety training for the place I am going to be working at. Most of it was boring and repetitive and common sense. There was one bit of it that caught my attention. The section on dangerous wild life at the construction site I am working on. It includes:

Alligators
Cottonmouth Snakes
Brown Recluse [...]

A very busy day

December 4th, 2008

Very quickly, what I accomplished today:

Found an apartment and put my deposit down
Bought a car – A new Nissan Altima 2.5s (pictures coming soon)
Bought car insurance
Opened a bank account
Got a PO Box
Bought steel-toed boots for work
Food shopping
Bought a bed for myself
Wrote four blog entries

It was a pretty full day. The car and apartment ate up [...]

Preconceptions about Texas

December 3rd, 2008

I spent most of my life in New York and have hardly ever been to the south. I have never been to Texas. I have met a few people from there but not many. I have cousins there whom I have hardly ever seen in my life. However, I have lots of ideas in my [...]
